Welcome

Over the years I have written several "book" or "booklets" and many, many, many newsletter and bulletin articles. Because the book market seeks writings to meet specific needs at specific times, my material has never been accepted. I have a tendency to write what is on my mind and so I am left with self publishing. So, with the encouragement from my wife and others, I am beginning this blog in order to put my "ramblings" "out there"! I hope you enjoy!

Please note that while my intentions are to use good grammar, because of the way in which some of the material presented here is presented (orally) the grammar and syntax might not always be the best English. Also note that good theology is not always presented in the best English so there may be times when the proper grammar rules are purposely broken.

CD - The Holy Bible - Genesis 1:3

It should be plainly stated at the outset of this devotional book that nothing can replace God’s Word, the Holy Bible, as being the rule and norm for all of life. If we forget that Scripture is God’s Word and the basis for life, we could easily slip back to the pre-Reformation era and would need a Reformation all over again. In other words, it is great to be able to read what I write as well as what others write for inspiration and guidance, but do not let my words overshadow or replace God’s Word in any way. I am merely a fallible human being with a finite mind. God is infallible with an infinite mind. Thus, although I am as careful as humanly possible, I am still open to make mistakes in my view of Scriptures, whereas God does not make mistakes, and Scripture is infallible.

The first thoughts I want to relay to you are these: Number one, there is more we do not know about God than what we do know about Him. We have Bible scholars with PhD’s who know several Biblical languages and devote themselves to an endless study of the scriptures and seem to know tremendously more than we know, but (and this is not meant to take anything away from them) all they know is still less than all they do not know about God. The most exciting thing about all this knowledge is that simple faith in Jesus Christ is all we need for salvation. We are given this faith by grace. Is that awesome or what?

Number two, if we believe we have such a tremendous God, why do we keep trying to put Him in a box or a church building? I honestly believe and wholeheartedly submit to you that, if God is God, then He is all-powerful. I mean all-powerful; that is, He created this complex world with simple (or I should say powerful) words. God said, “Let there be,” and there was. Talk about powerful words! If He could do that, what is to keep Him from creating a world in progress? After all, Adam and Eve were created as adults, not babies. If God is God, what is to keep Him in a building? Why do we persist in putting God in a box and letting Him out only when we want? I believe God is so powerful that He indeed has authored that our Bibles today have been written, translated, and published without any errors (inerrancy of Bible).

One should read books for inspiration but not forget to read his Bible. It has answers to the questions of today, but remember not to try to keep the Bible in “its” time. Make today relevant to Scripture, and, prayerfully, God will give you all kinds of answers through your Bible reading.

One more thought—the Bible is not meant for many different interpretations as you see fit, but the Bible interprets itself. That is if you do not understand one part, keep reading because it will be explained in another part.

Almighty Lord, I come before You, humbled at Your greatness. By Your hands I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I thank You for making me. I thank You for all of Your many, many gifts and blessings, too numerous to count. But most especially, do I thank You for the gift of salvation, given to me as a free gift through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
